What we do?
We specialize in two types of assets: molecular visualizations and word clouds. We developed innovative tools enabling us to automate parts of the process of asset creation. These tools enabled us to grow our collection of animated word clouds to be the world's biggest collection in its category.
Who are we?
The core of our team consists of Luka and Tomislav, but we work with outside contractors for specific purposes. Luka is a scientist with a background in molecular biology and neuroscience: he obtained a Master of Science degree in Biology from the University of Zagreb (Croatia) and a PhD degree in Life sciences (Neuroscience) from the University of Tours (France). Tomislav is a video editor and animator with a Bachelor's degree in Information science and communicology from the University of Zagreb.
How we do it?
For molecular visualizations, we use various molecular modeling tools such as PyMOL and QuteMol. We obtain the structures from public databases such as PubChem (compounds) and The Protein Data Bank (proteins), verify and annotate them, after which we create a visualization and render them in extremely high quality. If necessary, we use Adobe Photoshop to further improve the appearance. Our work strives to be both beautiful and scientifically accurate at the same time.
Static word clouds are generated with Wordle (http://wordle.net/). Post-processing is completed in Adobe Photoshop.
Dynamic word clouds are generated algorithmically in Adobe After Effects through a custom script written in Adobe ExtendScript language. After generation of several initial variants, they are animated in Adobe After Effects using the same script. The collection of animated word clouds in then sent to Adobe Media Encoder for rendering. This heavily-automated approach enabled us to create the world's biggest collection of animated word clouds
